Freedom of choice for the customer
Euro 4/5
Cuts in limit values from Euro 0 to Euro 5
Whether it's Euro 4 technology for local and long-distance transport and construction site usage - or toll-saving Euro 5 technology for the long haul, MAN always gives customers the choice. The result: custom-tailored emission control technology.
Euro 4 – a convincing solution
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge offers a unique Euro 4 solution with emission management technology combined with EGR and the MAN PM KAT® particulate filter for Common Rail engines.

The smart MAN Euro 4 solution is especially suitable for typical uses of the TGL and TGM light- and mid-weight truck series, as its weight advantage provides numerous benefits like more space on the frame and a higher payload. This makes Euro 4 the best solution for local and regional transport as well as for long-distance transport on freeways with few emission-related toll stretches.
Euro 5 - Basis of the future
For compliance with Euro 5 emission standards, MAN offers SCR technology under the brand name MAN AdBlue® exclusively for its TGA long-distance trucks. MAN's AdBlue® technology is especially suited for long-distance transport when high yearly mileage accrues, especially when many of these miles are driven on toll roads.

The Euro emission standards - reaching goals with lower pollutant levels
Trucks are becoming increasingly cleaner. Euro limit values have been in existence since 1990. The next level, Euro 4, takes effect in October 2006. Euro 5 will be required for all newly registered vehicles in October 2009.
MAN provides the optimal technology for these emission standards and is already optimally suited for the Euro 6 emission standards planned as of 2012.

Technical challenges
Compared with Euro 3, the Euro 4 limit values are significantly stricter, requiring the proportion of oxides of nitrogen to be reduced by some 30 % and that of particulates by some 80 %. The Euro 5 standard, due to come into force in 2009, calls for a further drastic cut in oxides of nitrogen.

Measures aimed at reducing exhaust-gas values solely by optimising the combustion process have reached the limits of what is feasible, as high engine outputs in conjunction with low fuel consumption can be achieved only with high combustion temperatures. This, however, requires a higher emission of oxides of nitrogen.
The challenge is to develop a solution which drastically lowers the emissions - without any loss in output and without extra fuel consumption.
